"We knew we were going to be completely & utterly blown away, but WOW! We absolutely love that you’ve captured things that we missed or had forgotten about! Every single picture tells the story of the day so perfectly, down to every smile, laugh, hug, dance & even a happy tear on a cheek!"
Lucy & Ross' Oak Barn Wedding was my last of the summer last year my season finished on a high note. A first for me at The Oak Barn, an amazing venue just outside Exeter in the beautiful Devon countyrside. I asked the couple to answer an few questions for me and to give you readers a little insight into their day and planning. Enjoy the read and the photos, some of my favourite ever images are here within.
Tell Us Your Story
We had known each other for years through mutual friends but didn’t become a couple until around 5 years ago. Our friends always said we had a thing for each other before we were together. Our first date was a walk on Woolacombe beach and after a year & half of being together Ross proposed with love hearts (my favourite sweets) while we were on holiday in Spain during sunset. (This after the wedding but... we will be moving out of our flat & into our new home next week.
What were your favourite parts of the day?
Lucy’s favourite parts: The moment when my dad walked into the room & saw me in my wedding dress for the first time & seeing and feeling how proud & happy he was for me. That moment I am going to treasure forever and the moment Ross and I met at the end of the aisle & I didn’t know what to say apart from “hi” Having sunset pictures in the field & also Mr & Mrs was pretty funny too. Ross’s favourite parts: Greeting all the guests as they arrived for our wedding day. When the music started for the ceremony and seeing Lucy for the first time. Really enjoyed the first dance & Mr & Mrs game.
What made you choose your details and styling?
We loved the idea of a DIY wedding so we could pick & choose exactly what & how we wanted our perfect wedding. We loved the shabby chic rustic style Pinterest played a big role in a fair few of our ideas.
What entertainment did you have?
One of my best friends Beckah sung during our wedding ceremony. We had garden games for during the day and Bespoke Disco were our DJ, which included a light up led dance floor. Also had a game of Mr & Mrs
What are your top tips for couples planning their own wedding?
Keep a wedding check list, book or folder of what’s booked/ not booked and have the dates noted when each thing needs paying or when finally numbers etc are needed so you don’t loose track. Keep calm! Although it is very hard not to stress, you will have those moments, but just remember you are planning YOUR wedding day for YOU not everyone else and on the big day what ever happens everything will be as perfect as it can be.
What were you looking for in terms of your wedding photography?
We wanted a photographer who had a laid back approach and who would shoot every wedding they did differently and had lots of different ideas. Also we went for a photographer who we had been recommended and we had heard great things about. "Thanks Lucy"
Any other comments regarding your day or your photos?
The whole day felt like a complete dream and it was better than we could have ever imagined. Our wedding photos are also better than we could have ever dreamed of. Mike has an amazing talent and all the hard work and hours he puts into his photos truly show as they are beyond perfect definitely 110% recommend as anyone who has him as their wedding photographer will not be disappointed!
