Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

I recently saw these questions on a wedding blog. I decided I would answer the same questions to help all you would be brides out there wanting to ask Me the same things. I hope they are helpful and if you have any questions of your own, please get in touch, warm regards, Mike.

Q. What is your preferred style of photography?  I like to think of myself as being a creative photographer, but to put it plainly, my style is a mix of both Traditional and Documentary, using natural light where I can and additional lights when I want to get creative.

Q. How many weddings have you shot in your career? More than 150, plenty to get experience in all situations.

Q. How many weddings will you shoot on my wedding day? Thats easy, one, yours :)

Q. Have you ever shot at my venue? If not, then I will visit the venue, maybe with you for your pre wedding shoot or just for a chat.

Q. Do you bring your own lighting? Yes, I bring along a full lighting kit just incase but tend to use small lights to create what I want to shoot.

Q. Do you work from a shot list? Yes and No, Yes, I will give you a list of formal groups for you to choose from, having this list makes that part of the day go much quicker and No, I dont have a specific list of images I try to get, I go with the flow and shoot what looks good with good light and composition. But of course I shoot all the details, cake cutting etc.

Q. Can I request certain images at my wedding? Yes, any particular groups can be added to your shotlist, but if you have seen something on Pinterest or elewhere you love, share it or your board with me and I'll have a look. Exactly copying an image can be problematic due to lighting and location but I'll put my spin on the image.

Q How many hours are included in the package? My all day coverage will start two hours prior to your ceremony until half hour after your first dance, if you have fireworks or something special happening later let me know, I'm happy to stay on if there is good stuff going on.

Q. Do you bring a second shooter? Not as a rule, I do 99% of my weddings alone, this way I am not relying on others to get the shots I need for you. But if you really want one I have photog friends who may be able to help out.

Q. How many images can I expect to see from my wedding? I do not have an exact number to give you, just know that you will get all usable images, usually this is 350+, but it all depends on locations, weather and lots of other things. I do not have a limit on the number of images I take.

Q. How long does it take to see the photos from our wedding? Within 28 days, but quicker if I can depending on workload.

Q. Do I receive a disc of my images or do I have to order prints through you? All options include a USB of your images. You can print these wherever you wish, I do however advise against using supermarkets and pharmacys to get your prints. Online printers such as Photobox are great, I use them for family prints. If you would like professional prints these can be ordered via your online wedding gallery.

Q. How much are prints? Prices start at £4 for a 6x4

Q. Is an album included? Albums are available to add to the Digital Coverage Option starting at £255.

Q. Will you use my images in advertising? Unless you really dont want me to, Yes.

Q. What will you wear? It'd be fun to wear a mankini but I'm sure Grandma may object, Shirt and trousers it is then.

Q. What is your plan if there is an emergency and you cannot shoot my wedding? Lets hope it dosen't come to that but I have large group of photography friends that I can call on, don't Panic, it'll be covered by a professional no matter what.

Q. Do you have back up equiptment? Yes, I have two bags with the same gear in each and a mountain of batteries!

Q. Are you insured? Yes, fully insured by Aaduki Multimedia insurance.

Q. How much is the deposit and when is the balance due? To secure your date £200 deposit is required. Your balance is due 28 days prior to your wedding.

Q. What is your cancellation policy? Your deposit is non refundable, however, if you need to change your date I'll migrate your deposit to the new date if I am available. If you decide to cancel completely there is an increasing percentage of liability the closer you get to your date.
